Oven Repair in Manteca CA - (209) 245-2955

Let's go over some ways to conduct an oven repair on a gas stove with an igniter that simply won't light.

This problem is pretty common in gas ovens. A handful of oven parts could be to blame, we'll discuss how to diagnose the problem by inspecting each of these parts.

First, the igniter itself needs to be checked out. If it's not glowing up whatsoever it appears that no power is reaching the igniter. You'll want to test for continuity at the circuit - unfortunately, this kind of test is very dangerous and should be left to a licensed electrician. If the igniter is glowing, however, it can be tested with a multimeter to see if there is sufficient electrical output.

The next part to check is your oven's safety valve, aka the gas valve. Your igniter must warm up before gas comes in to spark up a flame. If your igniter does not get hot enough it will fail to open the safety valve. While the safety valve itself may be physically defective, a lot of the time the problem lies within the igniter itself.

Another part to check is the control board. This component serves as a computer and electronically controls the safety valve. A lack of continuity in the control board will signify a defect to the board and a need for replacement. Please understand, these live electricity tests are best left in the hands of an appliance repair technician / licensed electrician.

Lastly, the temperature sensor could also be causing the igniter to not light. If this part is defective an error code will usually show on your oven's LCD screen. A multitester can be used to determine whether the sensor has continuity. If it doesn't, it must be replaced.

Helpful tip

The most common issue with a faulty oven fan is a lack of heat circulation. This problem results in food not getting cooked as evenly as it normally would be. Some other possible issues impacting the oven fan include louder operation and intermittent failure. These issues are typically the result of a defect in the oven fan motor - blades could be loose, grease could be jamming it up or it might be shorting out. Further, make sure you do not have the mode on 'Auto' as this might be stopping the fan from running as well.
